How To Use And Care For Silver Reflective Fabric
Silver reflective fabric is specified wherever workers and users need to be seen in low light: high-visibility safety vests, work jackets, coveralls and uniforms; rainwear and outdoor gear; sportswear and cycling apparel; school uniforms; and accessories such as bags and footwear trim. The fabric can be die-cut, hand-cut or guillotined, then sewn directly onto fabric.
Sew with a double-thread lockstitch, no more than 5 stitches per centimetre, keeping at least 2 mm from the edge of the reflective material.
Machine wash at a maximum of 60°C with standard detergent (no bleach); keep drying below 50°C and iron at medium heat without steam. Actual service life depends on cleaning method and wear conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Silver reflective fabric is a textile backing coated with a layer of reflective micro glass beads. The glass beads reflect light toward the light source, which is why the fabric appears to glow silver-white under headlights or a flashlight at night. This retro-reflection principle is the same across all our models; what differs is typically the backing fabric, stretch properties, washing cycles, etc.
All four silver reflective fabrics are tested to a minimum of 25 home wash cycles at 60°C under ISO 6330, and 5 dry-cleaning cycles under ISO 3175.
On wash durability: EN ISO 20471 requires that the material still meets its minimum RA threshold after the specified wash cycles, not just before. Our silver reflective fabric is tested and certified in the washed state, so the 420 cd/(lx·m²) figure already reflects post-wash performance.
Care instructions: machine wash at maximum 60°C with standard detergent, no bleach, no tumble-dry above 50°C, iron at medium heat without steam.

EN ISO 20471 is the international standard for high-visibility protective clothing, mandatory for CE-marked PPE sold in the European Union. It sets minimum requirements for fluorescent background material area, retroreflective material area, and the coefficient of retroreflection (RA) of the reflective material itself.
For separate-performance retroreflective material, the standard requires a minimum RA of 330 cd/(lx·m²). All Minhui Luminou's silver reflective fabric grades deliver ≥420 cd/(lx·m²), tested in the post-wash state, meaning the value is guaranteed after the full wash-cycle programme, not only on new material. The standard uses a three-class system: Class 1 for low-risk environments, Class 2 for road construction and logistics, and Class 3 for high-speed road exposure.

ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 is the American National Standard for high-visibility safety apparel, referenced by OSHA and the US Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD).
Like EN ISO 20471, it uses a three-class system, but adds a Type structure: Type O for off-road environments, Type R for roadway workers, and Type P for public safety and emergency responders. The key practical difference for garment manufacturers: ANSI 107 requires the gap between reflective bands to be no less than the width of the tape itself, while EN ISO 20471 sets a fixed minimum gap of 50 mm. Minimum tape width also differs by class.
All Minhui silver reflective fabric grades are certified to ANSI/ISEA 107-2020 and can be specified into garments targeting both the US and EU markets simultaneously.
