What is the difference between zinc sulfide and strontium aluminate glow in the dark powder?

Both are photoluminescent, they absorb light and re-emit it in the dark, but they serve different needs.

Zinc sulfide based glow in the dark powder (ZnS: Cu) is the traditional glow in the dark material. It charges very fast, meaning it can glow in the dark with a very short light excitation time. The trade-off is luminosity and afterglow duration: ZnS fades within minutes rather than hours.

Strontium aluminate based glow in the dark powder (SrAl2O4:Eu, Dy) is the new kind of glow in the dark material. It is 10x higher in terms of luminosity and glow hours compared to zinc sulfide, and now is the most used kind of glow powder. It dominates safety signage, emergency wayfinding, and any application where long-duration glow is the requirement.

Which kind of glow in the dark powder has the strongest glow?

MS sulfide based glow in the dark powder has the advantage of unique glow in the dark colors. They do not provide high lumminosity or long glow hours.

If you are looking for glow in the dark powder with high lumnosity and 12+ hours glow time (time to decay to 0.3mcd/sqm), you can check our strontium aluminate photoluminescent pigment, which is the type of photoluminescent pigment that has the strongest afterglow intensity. It is global standard for making safety signage, emergency evacuation markings, and all applications where maximum visibility in darkness is important.

ls photoluminescent pigment waterproof?

For water-based paint, ink, or any application with moisture exposure, please ask us for the encapsulated/waterproof version, it has the same glow performance as non-waterproof version, but with full moisture resistance.

Non-waterproof version is suitable for solvent-based paints, inks, plastics, epoxy resins, and dry applications.

What kind of products can I make with sulfide based glow in the dark powder?

Sulfide based glow in the dark powder is suitable for application including printing, coating, spray painting, casting, injection molding, textile printing, toys, fishing lures, and so much more.
