Frequently Asked Questions
No electricity or batteries are needed for it to glow. Our glow in the dark HTV is made with strontium aluminate photoluminescent pigment, which charges from daylight or indoor light and then releases that energy as an afterglow in the dark. It can act as an emergency lighting and safety back-up during emergencies or in dark environments.
MHP-8131 photoluminescent heat transfer vinyl meets ISO 17398 Class C afterglow intensity standard, which is tested to be over 150 mcd/m² at 10 minutes test point and over 20 mcd/m² at 60 minutes test point
The afterglow stays visible for over 12 hours, measured down to the 0.3 mcd/m² perception threshold, which is the minimum level of light that the human eye can recognize. Always compare glow material by measured mcd/m² values rather than glow-hour claims alone.
ISO 17398 is the international standard that classifies photoluminescent (glow-in-the-dark) safety materials by how bright they glow and how long the glow lasts. Each class specifies the minimum luminance (mcd/m²) the photoluminescent material must maintain at 2, 10, 30, and 60 minutes after the light source is removed.
Class C is a sub-classification from ISO 17398, which is the afterglow intensity level required for safety signage and evacuation systems.
